IPOB: Vote or risk state of emergency, Oduah warns Anambra voters

Lawmaker representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Senator Stella Oduah, has urged the electorate in Anambra State to come and exercise their franchise in the governorship election holding on Saturday.
Oduah, who dropped out of governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party which produced Oseloka Obaze as the party’s candidate for the poll, warned that failure to exercise their franchise could lead to the declaration of state of emergency in Anambra.
The former Minister of Aviation and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration, stated that  emergency declaration would not be in the best interest of the state, as the democratic leadership would be removed.
One week to the governorship election in Anambra State, the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra had threatened voters with death if they vote. They also vowed to disrupt the election.
The members of the group marched around some streets in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Friday, vowing a lockdown on the day of the election, which is scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 18, 2017.
The PDP lawmaker, while addressing journalists in Abuja on Sunday, also charged political leaders in the state to enjoin their followers to come out and vote at the November 18 exercise.
Oduah said, “Our constitution does not allow for half-a-minute space between the incumbent tenure being over and the next tenure. Therefore, if we fail to come out and cast our votes to have a new governor, what will happen is that the Federal Government will provide an administrator and declare a state of emergency.
“It means that democracy will elude us. The administrator that would be governing us would not be who we voted for or who we desire; that is not what we want.
“Therefore, we must not allow ourselves to be disenfranchised; we must make sure that we come out on November 18th and vote.”
